A Beauty

Hey Beauty!

A Beauty

When I was a young girl I remember playing on a grass hill and one of my aunts called out to me “You look soooo big and black!” as the sun was cascading on my back. It was clear in her tone and smirk that this was the worst possible names to be called. It was summer, I was heading into the fourth grade and for years after, that moment played in the back of my mind.

I was blessed with a mother who always talked about how beautiful my “black” was. She is a San Francisco native who grew up with “Say it Loud! I’m Black and I’m PROUD” She would tell me the blacker the berry, the sweeter the juice! After that you could not tell me my black was not sweet.

As for the “big”, it creep up on me in 3rd grade. And continue to expand over the years. I wasn’t too concerned about that part besides she was NO little nugget herself lol.

What my aunt did was let me in on the fact that not everyone sees me as being beautiful. In her eyes, my dark melanin damned me to ugliness. I’m still praying for her. Lol, my point is beauty is all of you, from the birth mark to your body shape to your mane. It is all beauty that you must see in yourself. The world is cruel in how they define beauty. Don’t you dare be cruel to yourself.

CBE Mask

NO MORE MASK

CBE Mask

A lot of folks have their public and private life. And some folks are able to balance the pressure of both well. And others simply put a mask on not really being authentic in their public life or private life. The first question I always want to ask is why? What is the fear you have?

I am a true believer that being authentically you is the most freeing and beautiful state of being. Being you is living life as you have chosen, living life your way regardless what lemons it can toss you.

Think about this quote: “One of the greatest tragedies in life is to lose your own sense of self and accept the version of you that is expected by everyone else.”  K.L. Toth

It has me thinking again about one’s worry about what everyone else perception of them. It seems like a unfair burden to carry on based on other people. If you read my earlier post you know I am not a fan of that!

Here is another perspective-

Think about this quote: ““You’ll never know who you are unless you shed who you pretend to be.” -Vironika Tugaleva

Who are you really? What defines who you are? Are you hiding behind a mask that starves the world of your personal awesomeness.

Today, I just want you to think.

CBE BRAVE

BE Brave Doll!

CBE BRAVE

I remember the moment I had signed up for a singing contest and it was being held during the half time of college basketball games. I remember the drop in my stomach and thinking to myself, WHY did I do this to myself! Why did I put myself out there to be judge not only by the actual judges but the whole University. Well truth be told a friend of mine talked me into auditioning but the truth be told I only really do what I want but either way I still had to be BRAVE.

I had to have a made up mind that I am going for it! I was going to tackle it head on and win. Yes, I actually did win it all! lol

Life often makes us want to fall back and take the most easiest route. The truth is the only way out, the only way to bring about change is to go through it. To be brave and face the challenges that create barriers from us living the highest quality of life.

Call out what is making you want to hide! Call out the fear you have! It does not have power over you when you decided that you are going to put HANDS ON IT! When you decide that you are going to HANDLE IT! Call it out today!

“I will have victory over you! I will not be afraid, I _________________________will be brave!”

CBE CHANGE

CHANGE – BUT NOT FOR OTHERS

CBE CHANGE

Happy Wednesday!

I hope your short week for most and regular for some is going well! I was talking with some girlfriends about the things in life I want to change about my current status in life in many areas of my life. And as we were talking I was thinking about the “WHY” I wanted change in different areas and they were talking about their “WHYs”.

In this conversation I realized how easy it is to seek change based on the perception of others and the vibes you get from others and others insecurities that can creep up under the radar like “YOU” have them when you don’t!

It happens so easily but what I shared with them and what I want to share with you is DON’T change because you think that is what other’s want you to do. DON’T change the interaction between yourself and other individuals UNLESS it will be a blessing to your life and those you love!

We can’t afford to live our lives based on other people’s insecurities. We most stand confidently in our own awesomeness. How often do we change how we look to satisfy someone else’s perception of us? Now, of the bat some of you will be like NOPE not ME! But really think about other situations where you began to change when really it was not benefiting you but other people….Just think.

Building Bridges Over Barriers – Focus Friday

Happy Friday!!!!

Thank you for stopping by to check out my chat about Building Bridges Over Barriers today. Unfortunately Facebook live was not working for me so you can only catch it on Periscope.

For those who are new my page, my name is Kimberly Walker and I am the CEO & Founder of Curves Beautifully Empowered. My passion and purpose is to inspire and empower people to soar into their personal awesomeness!!!! You can always find me here but also on Periscope: kimberlyjwalker, Facebook: /kimjwalker and Instagram: Kimberlywalkercbe!

So here are a few thoughts I have about creating bridges in life so you can be successful in whatever it is in life that you want to pursue.

BUILDING BRIDGES OVER BARRIERS

1. Have the right mindset! In other words, get yo mind right!!! Tell yourself “I will conquer this barrier!” everyday and any moment you feel fear and doubt creeping over your shoulder. Also make sure that you are thinking outside of the box! Yes as a matter of fact don’t stay in the box, think outside of it, go around it and flip that mofo OVER! You don’t have time to be boxed in and limited. The biggest barrier starts with your mindset.

2. Do the work! Research it! Find out who has achieved what you desire in your life. Seek out “think partners” who will stretch you beyond what you can see. Seek out mentors! And not the mentors who just want to say that they have mentees. Find a mentor who will help hold your hand at times and share resources.  And when you find these folks, make sure you align yourself with them. That means also investing in yourself and using those coins to pay for their time. Most successful folks love to share but time is also money and there has to be a balance so be ready to invest in what you seek. But most  importantly build authentic relationships in life will make you or break you.

3. Don’t stop until you get your yes. NO is temporary! No is a line that you can step over to get your yes!. NO for me equals New Options! It just an opportunity for me to figure out what else is other there. To figure out, what is missing. That is why I use vision boards to keep me focused on my goals and no matter what walls or barriers pop up I am still focused with time lines and deadlines.

Until next Friday, God Bless!!!

When Women Network! Ladies Day Party Beauty Bar + Boutique

trio
*Alena Larie, Kariba Jacks in the center!

I opened my eyes still laying down after a good night of sleep, finally, and I thought today will be a full day! I was excited however. I saw the marketing for the Ladies Day Party Beauty Bar + Boutique months before and bought two tickets. One for my gorgeous sister Alena and one for myself of course. I believe it is important to support other women doing amazing things in our area and I was excited to attend Kariba’s event for the first time.

We hopped on I-5 south to Tacoma. We found the venue with ease and circled around a few times and found a parking spot and paid $2 for all day parking. Not bad at all. We walked into the space and was greeted at the door. A sequined photo back drop to our right with fun accessories for pictures.

We gave our name and entered into a warm room, buzzing with conversation and vibing with a DJ LuceScrewz spinning on the 1s  & 2s the room was visually pleasing. Mimosas and refreshments greeted us. Simply Kay’s Ladies Paint Night (http://www.ladiespaintnight.com) table to our right, I already knew that would be my first stop after grabbing refreshments (yes to food!). After creating a master piece I made my rounds to shop. I met the lovely Ebony from Beauty With E Artistry (www.bweartistry.com) and I entered a drawing for a makeup basket. I hate to say…I did not win it! Next was the Stylist/National Expansion Leader Letrese who sold me a gorgeous long gold key necklace     (www.tracilynnjewelry.net/3871). Had a little fashion show with Lularoe’s Elle Saunders. I learned about a product I had not heard of before called Kyani (www.kyaniscience.com)  which can improve a number of health concerns based on the information I was given. There were many other vendors present but one in particular I thought was really cool. Her Big Day presents a Cultural Wedding Affair with Beri and Karen. Perhaps it is the former wedding planner in me but I loved their concept and exchanged contact information. I look forward to attending their event on January 29, 2017 (WWW.HERBIGDAY2017.EVENTBRITE.COM) and sharing all about.

Now let’s take a moment and meet who made all of this possible! Ms. Kariba Jack!

KW: What prompted your vision?

So the vision that prompted us was that fact that people love doing events and love going to networking events. But no one has the urge to keep doing them so I created Doux Networking (www.douxnetworking.com) and Doux in French means sweet and I was like Oh My God I should use Doux and there will be a series of networking events.

KW: Great, so you will do more of them?

Yes, I will do more. So, the first networking event I did was last October and it was called Curl’s Night Out, like a wine night for natural hair sisters. And I wanted to broaden the scope and so we have today the Ladies Day Party.

KW: Love it and you are having a great turn out and ladies are having a good time. So I am asking the ladies what pulled them out and what are some of their favorite buys?

KJ: The process was simple for the fact that I do the Seattle Natural’s Extravaganza, so I do expos. Doing something on that scale but mini if that makes sense.

KW: Yes, it does.

KJ: But yeah, finding a venue, from the venue picking the right date it’s finding the date that works in my schedule. Making sure there is parking the promotions and marketing. Making sure the branding is looking good for your flyer. A good price point like for this one I wanted to keep it very low, the cover was really to pay for unlimited drinks. After that it is keep on pushing.

KW: Do you learn anything new each time you put on an event?

KJ: Yes, I keep reminding myself that people do not read! Lol, people don’t read the fine print, the fine details. There will be the same questions like what day is it? Or what time does it start? So don’t get frustrated with that. And I learned that parking is huge no matter where the event is at. And when you can incorporate parking it just makes it so much better

KW: Well I only paying $2.00 in parking, yay. When you are targeting women what are you hoping they get out of your event?

KJ: Connections, everything is built on connections. So people showing up today are built on connections from before so it is very important. So I want them to meet new people and so when I hear people say oh I didn’t know you did this or that,  when I hear that I feel like I accomplished my goal. People creating connections and bonds.

KW: How can people get a hold of you?

KJ: If you want to connect with me, I am on every social media platform for the most part. They can find me through my photography website at www.karibaphotography.com if you need head shots, family photos or wedding photography please call me. They can also find me on twitter and Instagram @mskariba
